UPDATE: Suspicious item that caused Pick n’ Pull evacuation was “magic crystals”

KELOWNA – The small device found in a car which caused the evacuation of a West Kelowna auto wrecker this afternoon was a personal health care product filled with crystals some claim have healing powers.

Emergency crews, including police, fire rescue and ambulance, were called to Pick n' Pull on Stevens Rd. just after 1 p.m., July 30 about a suspicious item.

Asst. fire chief Brent Watson says it wasn't a bomb.

"It looked like an improvised explosive device… but it was just magic crystals," he says. He describes the device as roughly ten inches long.

RCMP were able to contact the owner who sold the car to the business, and he told them what the device was.

There were no injuries and the business returned to normal operation once police and fire crews left.
