WEST KELOWNA – The lift station that collects and stores wastewater in West Kelowna is getting a $1.3 million upgrade to improve reliability in the event of an emergency or extended power outage.

The Horizon Village Lift Station will be replaced and upgraded, giving residents of West Kelowna some peace of mind. The upgrade also includes expanded storage for sewage discharge and a backup power supply.

West Kelowna mayor Doug Findlater says the works are identified as a top priority in the Sewer Master Plan and calls the replacement “imperative.”

“The existing lift station was constructed in the mid 1990s and due to extreme growth rates in West Kelowna the facility is serving a population far greater than the original design anticipated,” he says in a media release.

The $1.36 million cost of the project will be paid for equally from funds provided by the federal government, the provincial government and the City of West Kelowna.
