The Latest: Juneau police investigate body found in wetlands

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Latest on a body found in Juneau (all times local):

11:50 a.m.:

A man found dead in Juneau has been identified as a 40-year-old resident.

Juneau police say George Benjamin Young was found face down in Lemon Creek near the bridge on Egan Drive.

Police say Young’s sister, 36-year-old Kristina Elizabeth Young, is missing and a search along Lemon Creek is underway.

A witness spotted the George Young’s body just before 5 p.m. Sunday. The body had signs of injury from being washed down the creek but no indication of foul play.

Investigators found personal items belonging to both George and Kristina Young about a half-mile upstream on the bank of Lemon Creek near the Glacier Highway.

The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on the body of George Young.

Police say alcohol appeared to be a factor in Young’s death.

A body was found Sunday in Juneau and police are investigating.

The body was found in the Mendenhall Wetlands near a bridge over Lemon Creek.

Police have not released the name, age or gender of the person.

Police detected no signs of foul play in their initial investigation.

The person’s next of kin has not been notified.
