New film ‘The Orchard’ shooting in the Okanagan

KELOWNA – An independent film company has chosen the Okanagan for an upcoming production that starts filming this weekend.

Vancouver-based Mutant Films, Inc. starts shooting The Orchard, on Aug. 10

The film stars Matt Angel of R.L Stine’s The Haunting Hour, CSI Miami and CSI NY, and Morgan Taylor Campbell of Super Natural, Spooksville, and The Killing.

It is written and will be directed by Kate Twa, who has been in the industry for more than 25 years.

Okanagan Film commissioner Jon Summerland says the production will hire most of its crew from Okanagan locals.

“The Okanagan is gaining a great reputation as the place to film,” he says in a release sent today, Aug. 4. “We have built up a strong crew base and infrastructure here, and can accommodate any production that wants to come to our region. The Indie film industry is a major economic driver in this province and it is really great to have it continue to grow as an industry in the Okanagan. Indie films are the easiest route for an inexperienced local to land a job as a crew member.”
