Charges possible after children found locked in hot vehicle in Penticton

PENTICTON – For some people, the message just doesn’t seem to be getting through when it comes to leaving kids or pets in locked vehicles.

RCMP were called to the Walmart parking lot last Thursday evening, July 30, after bystanders noticed kids left in a car, according to Penticton RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth.

Police found a one-year-old and a three-year-old in the vehicle, crying, with no parents in sight. Police were able to unlock the vehicle and release the kids from the vehicle which was very hot. Police were on scene 35 minutes before the kids’ mother showed up. She told police she had only gone into the store 'for a few minutes.'

Ambulance personnel attended the scene and took the children to hospital. The Ministery of Children and Family is now involved in the incident and police are investigating child endangerment charges.

During the day temperatures reached 32.6 Celsius in Penticton on July 30.

  1. Anyone who walks away from their children in a public place in this day and age should not have unsupervised access to them

  2. Is it not illegal to leave kids alone in cars through every season

  3. That’sawful . Those poor kids crying , hot and wondering where mom is .. People just don’t listen !She needs to sit in the car at that temp for 35 mins and see what her kids were going thru while she was shopping .. You can replace your items but you can’t replace your kids .. I’m not a mother but damn I know well enough you DO NOT leave kids or pets in a hot vehicle .. I hope the kids are ok but I’m sure they want their mom .. I just think when I was young , that’s all I wanted was my mom . It’s so sad cause these children don’t understand what mom did was so very wrong .. I feel for thei kids

  4. Are the parents crazy I would never leave a 1yr old and a 3yr old in a car for no reason she should be charged
