Thursday’s Peachfest action at Okanagan Lake Park

PENTICTON – Weather for the first day of Peachfest may not have been ideal, but that didn’t stop thousands from showing up along the Okanagan Lake shoreline to watch the Royal Canadian Snowbirds perform their magic.

The forecast for today, Aug. 6, calls for clearing skies this afternoon, just in time for day two activities.

The West Coast Lumberjack Show will make three appearances in Okanagan Lake Park, at 12:50 p.m., 2:50 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. The show provides an entertaining blend of humour and lumbering skills, suitable for all ages.

A full slate of music and entertainment is scheduled for Okanagan Lake Park this afternoon, with musical acts beginning at 1:25 p.m., when About Time hits the stage with popular music.

Rumble 100 (top-40 music) take the stage at 1:55 p.m., followed by the Black Widow Rope Spinners, who perform at 2:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Two dance performances are slated for 4:45 p.m., Mazur Polish Dancers, and 7:15 p.m., Boundless Belly Dancers.

Rounding out the musical performances are:
– Aidan Mayes Mandy Cole (popular music) at 5:05 p.m.
– Flashback at 6:40 p.m.
– Nikita Afonso (country-popular music) at 7:35 p.m.
– Cosmic Brew (rock music) at 8:20 p.m.

Today’s main act is 54-40, starting at 9:30 p.m. The Reel Peach Festival, with short film clips of all things Okanagan, begins at 9:15 p.m., just before tonight’s headline act.

The Penticton Air Display 2017 will start at 5 p.m., but a decision on the Snowbirds’ performance will not be available until just before showtime due to smoke issues in the South Okanagan, organizers say. Photographer: Steve Arstad

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
