Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw will have a hearing with the NHL to determine if a fine or suspension is warranted after boarding a Washington Capitals player during a pre-season game, the league’s department of player safety announced Wednesday.
Shaw, acquired in the off-season from the Chicago Blackhawks, checked Connor Hobbs into the boards from behind at 17:50 of the second period on Tuesday night. He then fought with the Capitals’ Nathan Walker. Shaw was handed a five-minute boarding penalty as well as a fighting major, a misconduct and a game misconduct.
The hearing is set for Thursday.
