VIDEO: Kamloops Pipe Band gets results in Scotland

KAMLOOPS – As one of only five Canadian bands at a recent festival in Perth, Scotland, the Kamloops Pipe Band put on a memorable performance this past weekend and earned a second place finish.

The Kamloops Pipe Band was the only band representing B.C., the other bands were out of Edmonton, Alta., and Dartmouth, NS., and is taking part in several competitions while overseas.

The group finished 18th and third at the Bridge of Allan Highland Games and then eighth and fifth at the North Berwick games. Sunday they competed in Perth, where they tied for first and finished second overall.

The Perth games typically attract more than 5,000 people and this year 43 pipe bands competed across six different categories. Kamloops was up against 10 other bands in its category, including Edmonton, which finished in third place.

This week they will be taking part in the Pipe Band Parades at the world championships and Piping Live festival in Glasgow, which will be broadcast online Aug. 13.

Pipe band competitions are one of several events typically held at highland games, along with highland dancing and heavyweight events like caber tossing and hammer throws.
