Crash on Highway 97 just south of Vernon

VERNON – A head-on collision near the Vernon Army Camp has sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened around 9 a.m., Aug. 13, on Highway 97 near the Army Camp when two vehicles struck head-on.

The drivers of both vehicles, a man and a woman, had to be removed with the jaws of life and were rushed to hospital with serious injuries, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.

Police investigators are on scene and have the northbound lane shut down while they analyze the accident. The southbound lane was also closed for a period of time while investigators used a drone to take aerial photos of the scene, but is now open and traffic is moving.

Drive B.C. says there is a local detour via College Way, Kalamalka Lake Road and Highway 6 and the route is scheduled to fully reopen by 11:30 a.m.
