New Splatsin Community Centre is ‘awesome’ chief says
ENDERBY – As far as community centres go, this one looks a little different.
The brand new, state of the art Splatsin Community Centre in Enderby is well on its way to completion and is worth stopping by to take a look at, if only from the outside. Splatsin chief Kukpi7 Wayne Christian describes it as simply ‘awesome.’
“The building as a whole is pretty unique architecturally,” he says.
For one, the round shape of the building is based on traditional winter pit houses, Christian says. It’s also topped with a living ‘green roof’.
“It really is a feature for our own community, but also the local region, to be proud of,” he says.
The facility has a full-sized basketball court, a running track and large sliding doors to accommodate indoor car and boat shows. With a capacity of 2,000 people, Christian says the building will be capable of hosting major events.
“It’s designed to be multi-purpose. That was the input from our community,” Christian says.
The building is pegged for a late summer or fall opening.
