West Virginia sheriff’s deputy shoots, kills man
HOMETOWN, W.Va. – A West Virginia sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man after police say he pointed a gun at the officer.
Joshua Allen Perry, 28, died at the scene. The deputy, who has not been identified, was not injured and has been placed on paid leave.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department says in a news release a deputy was checking out a report of a suspicious vehicle in Hometown when three white men ran from the car in different directions. Chief Deputy Eric Hayzlett said the deputy noticed Perry had a gun and ordered him to drop it. Hayzlett said Perry ignored him, and the deputy fired after Perry pointed the gun at him.
The other two suspects were questioned and released. The West Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting.
