Police: Officer fired round that hit child during standoff

TOWSON, Md. – Baltimore County Police say they believe an officer fired a round that hit and wounded the 5-year-old son of a woman whom police fatally shot during a standoff.

The department said in a news release that another medical procedure was performed on the boy Friday at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Police say the boy was wounded in his left cheek and an elbow.

Baltimore County Police officers shot and killed 23-year-old Korryn Gaines after she barricaded herself inside her Randallstown apartment Monday with the boy and pointed a shotgun at officers attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
