KVR trail gets greener with new trees

A section of the KVR trail in Penticton will be spruced up with trees, wood shavings and shrubs thanks to $12,000 of TLC.

Sixteen trees and 150 shrubs will be planted in the pocket park adjacent to Penticton High School and KVR Middle School. The funding will come from Canada Trust and Tree Canada. Penticton is one of only 25 communities selected to receive the grant.

The new pocket park will support future tree plantings by the Penticton Okanagan Rotary Club, which intends to plant a tree each year in commemoration of a student who participates in the service organization’s international student exchange program.

Since 1994, the park program has awarded funding to more than 500 communities, improving municipal green spaces and diversifying urban canopies.
