UPDATE: Crews knock down Peachland wildfire

PEACHLAND – Fire crews have knocked down a grass fire in Peachland this afternoon.

Firefighters were called just before 4 p.m., Aug. 24, to a grass fire burning above the 6500-block of Bulyea Avenue.

They arrived to find a Rank 2 fire burning up hill into trees and one tree had candled, according to unconfirmed reports.

B.C. Wildfire has responded with two crews, but the Peachland Fire Department took the lead on the interface blaze, fire information officer Kayla Pepper says.

By 5 p.m., the fire was knocked down and firefighters were mopping up.

The blaze was stopped just metres from at least two homes on Vernon Avenue.

One of the homeowners says he and some neighbours used garden hoses to help the fire fighting effort.
