Kamloops man may cancel return trip on cross-canada run

KAMLOOPS — The city’s cross-country runner is about to finish his trek across Canada, but might not make the trip back as funds continue to dwindle.

Edward ‘Fast Eddy’ Dostaler says he’s about a week away from reaching New Brunswick and says he won’t stop until he reaches Newfoundland. Unfortunately, he says, the plan to run back to Kamloops might not happen after covering costs for hotels and food while he raises funds for breast cancer and Alzheimer charities.

“I hope like hell that people will donate,” he says. “I want to at least know that I can make it across Canada."

The 26-year-old says he’s ‘given it all’ for the run, but costs for hotels, food and showers added up quickly, with little to no donations.

"It all adds up. I went into this with a lot less than what was ideal for the run. I said I was going to give it my very best. I’ve made it so far,” he says. 

Dostaler says he made the decision to potentially hold off on his return trip because of the upcoming winter and the long trek back across Ontario without cell service.

“It could be a bad situation,” he says.
