Bus fares for everyone will soon be $2.00

KAMLOOPS – The cost of riding the bus in Kamloops will soon be the same for everyone.

As of Sept. 1, bus fares will be $2.00 for children, students, seniors and adults.

Back in December of 2014, city council directed staff to research the effects on ridership if fares were to increase, decrease, stay the same, or even if fares were removed altogether.

Councillors decided regular fare should fall from $2.25 to an even $2.00 in accordance with the goals of the Sustainable Kamloops Plan in an effort to increase ridership. Council feels a $2.00 fare across the board would also be simpler for bus drivers.

While regular fares are falling, seniors and children from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will be paying 25-cents more, as the price goes up from $1.75 to $2.00. Children four-years-old and under will still ride for free.

There will also be changes to various bus routes on Sept. 6.

The #8 Battle route replaced by the #7 Aberdeen and one additional midday trip for the #14 Batchelor Heights.

While there are route changes, there will be no new routes. BC transit has declared a zero budget, freezing all funding province-wide for the next three years.
