One dead in Valleyview crash

KAMLOOPS – One person is dead after the vehicle they were in was struck by a work truck at the corner of Oriole Road and the Trans-Canada Highway today.

Cpl. Brian O’Callaghan says at roughly 12:20 p.m. today, Aug. 31, a white minivan travelling westbound on the highway didn't wait for traffic and attempted to make the left turn on to Oriole Road 'too quickly.'

The work truck, travelling east on the highway, collided with the minivan and skidded into the traffic light on Oriole Road.

The minivan suffered extensive damage. O’Callaghan says the passenger, an elderly person, was pronounced dead at the scene. He is not certain of the injuries sustained by the driver but says the driver was conscious and sent to Royal Inland Hospital.

O’Callaghan believes the driver of the work truck was also sent to hospital.

RCMP are waiting for a traffic analyst to arrive from Merritt and the eastbound slow lane at Oriole Road is expected to be closed for the next two to three hours.
