Man rescued from burning trailer

WEST KELOWNA – Firefighters contained a fire to a single unit of the Paradise Mobile Home Park on Boucherie Road last night.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue chief Jason Brolund says four people managed to escape the blaze, though not without help.

"In a commendable action, one occupant of the building who was asleep at the time of the fire was rescued by another occupant prior to the arrival of the fire department," Brolund says.

The fire started around 9:45 p.m., likely from smoking materials, Brolund says. Crews knocked it down quickly and kept it from damaging other units. They used four engines, a command unit and 17 firefighters on the fire, aided by RCMP and B.C. Ambulance. B.C. Hydro and Fortis were also on scene. He didn't comment on the extent of damage to the trailer.

"This is a great reminder to check your smoke alarm," he says in a release. "It can make the difference between life and death in a fire in any type of building."
