A week of thefts and threats for Penticton RCMP

PENTICTON – Summer activity appears to be winding down in the city with Penticton RCMP reporting a quiet week.

RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police investigated several vehicle thefts, mischief and domestic complaints over the past week in Penticton.

On Monday, Aug. 24, police were called in the early morning hours to a complaint of mischief at a parking garage located at 3301 Skaha Lake Rd. A 2010 white Dodge pickup was discovered with a broken rear window. A wallet, gym bag and golf shoes were missing from the vehicle.

Police found fingerprints at the scene, and a video was procured showing a man in the elevator of the building causing damage. At 1:45 a.m. the man was videotaped leaving the parking garage carrying a blue gym bag with white shoes in his hand.

A credit card from the wallet had been used at a number of businesses in Penticton and Summerland, where videos of the suspect were obtained.

The man was identified through the videos and fingerprints and he was subsequently arrested in Oliver. He is currently being held for court on numerous offences.

On Tuesday night, Aug. 25, police answered a call to a domestic disturbance on Fairview Road. A man and a woman were involved in a dispute. Both were intoxicated. Police arrested the man at the scene, charging him with uttering threats and pointing a firearm. He was released on bail and faces a court date.

On Sunday night, Aug. 30, Summerland police pursued a stolen vehicle in Summerland. After the occupant vacated the vehicle, police tracking dogs were brought in to locate the suspect, who was found in an apple crate.

Last night, Aug. 31, a yellow Smart car was reported stolen from a residence on Saliken Road. The owner was unable to report the vehicle’s plate number at the time. The car was found early Tuesday morning, Sept. 1, on Cartwright Road in Summerland.

The vehicle sustained damage after being driven into a curb, and its airbags were deployed. Witnesses reported to police they heard the voices of four males at approximately 4 a.m. Boisterous conversation and laughing was heard as the males got in a nearby pickup and drove off. The incident is under investigation.
