German minimum wage going up 4 per cent in 2017

BERLIN – Germany’s minimum wage will go up by four per cent next year, to 8.84 euros ($9.79) per hour.

A special commission of employers and workers has agreed to raise the hourly wage by 34 euro cents (37 cents).

The Germany dpa news agency reports that the head of the independent commission tasked with setting the minimum wage, Jan Zilius, said Tuesday the rise is in line with recent wage agreements in various sectors.

Germany’s minimum wage has been 8.50 per hour since January 1, 2015, when it was introduced. It’s revisited every two years.
