Goat wearing dog collar found wandering West Kelowna neighbourhood

WEST KELOWNA – A loose dog call in West Kelowna led bylaw to a much more unusual find Wednesday morning.

An adult male goat wearing a dog collar was found wandering around a neighbourhood on Chieftain Road. Amanda Hill posted a pic and description of the goat to the Kelowna/Okanagan Lost and Found Pets Facebook page around 11 a.m.

She says the goat had wandered into her sister’s yard and refused to leave.

SPCA supervisor Cam Buksa says bylaw were called to the area with reports of two stray dogs but when they arrived on Chieftain Road the dogs were gone. They did however, find a full-grown goat wearing a dog collar they believe may have escaped from a yard with his two canine companions.

“He looks to be older, I’m going to guess maybe ten years in age,” Buksa says. “He’s quite friendly. Very well socialized.”

Buksa says while rare, it’s not unheard of for the SPCA to get calls of this nature.

“Oddly enough this is not the first goat we’ve had brought in,” he says. “It is rare though. Over the past couple years there have been maybe half a dozen.”

The goat, which does not have a tag on his collar, is being kept at the Kelowna SPCA shelter on Casorso Road until the owners can be located.

The goat is tan in color wearing a camouflage nylon dog collar.
