August construction values increase dramatically in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – August marks a strong month for construction values in Kamloops, a positive change following a decline over the summer.

Like this past July, August had some big differences in the amount of permits issued from last year. In total 18 single family housing permits were issued this August, as opposed to 27 issued in August 2014. However, August 2015 saw a huge jump in multi-family permits with 111 issued, compared to just seven last August.

The total number of residential permits issued between the years varied greatly, with 129 issued this past August compared with the 34 issued August 2014. These permits include new units, additions and renovations.

Kamloops is still well ahead of last year’s residential permit totals. The city has already issued 356 residential permits this year, 80 more than it did by August of 2014.

There were 150 permits issued during the month of August 2015 at a value of just under $35 million. In August 2014 there were 130 permits issued, but were valued at just $13.6 million.

In total, 1,181 permits valued at roughly $137 million have already been issued in 2015. During the same time period last year, 985 permits valued at roughly $136 million were issued.
