Penticton gets to decide how latest provincial grants will be spent

PENTICTON – New funds are rolling into the City’s bank account from a provincial fund and Penticton gets to choose how it will be distributed within the community.

More than $423,000 will be given to the City and surrounding area — just a portion of the $74 million of Strategic Community Investment Fund money being invested into B.C. communities.

The City will receive $314,000 to be spent on policing, equipment, infrastructure and safety initiatives and the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District will get $109,000 from the Small Community Grant.

“From community safety to public services, municipalities are free to allocate these funds to the priority projects that matter to them,” Penticton MLA Dan Ashton says. “Residents of Penticton will benefit from safer streets, more efficient services, and an improved quality of life thanks to these grants.”
 
“A safe community is the foundation of every vibrant and sustainable City,” City of Penticton Mayor Garry Litke says. “This grant will support policing initiatives in Penticton so our residents and businesses can be comfortable and safe in the community.”
