PENTICTON – A fledgling fundraiser featuring bathtubs did better than expected for the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation last month.
The Aug. 22 running of the inaugural Great Ogopogo Bathtub Race raised more than $18,000 for the foundation, money that will go towards providing medical equipment for the proposed Patient Care Tower at Penticton Regional Hospital.
Sixteen bathtub racers competed in the round trip race to Penticton, which was won by Mike Stohler.
“The race was very well received,“ Summerland Yacht Club spokesman Jim Cavin says. “We raised more than we had targeted. Everyone I’ve talked to seemed happy with the way it went."
Plans are already in the works for next year’s race, tentatively slated for Aug. 20, 2016. The race is hosted by the Summerland Yacht Club
