Man wanted on Canada-wide warrant picked up in Oliver

PENTICTON – A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is now in police custody following an arrest by Penticton RCMP Drug Task Force and Oliver RCMP members this week.

Marcus Wilfred Sheena was apprehended on Sept. 9 for breaching conditions of a two-year sentence for a violent assault four years ago.

Sheena and a female accomplice approached two male victims who were sitting in a Penticton garage on Sept. 19, 2011, Penticton RCMP spokesperson Don Wrigglesworth says.

Sheena hit one victim in the stomach with a ball-peen hammer and struck the second victim on the head and neck with the hammer when the second man tried to intervene. The second victim also received a stab wound to the neck. Sheena then pushed the second man out of the garage while the woman accompanying Sheena choked the first man unconscious.

The second man was able to escape and called 9-1-1. Sheena was arrested after his DNA was matched that found on a cigarette at the scene.

In court it was revealed the victims suffered significant physical and psychological harm, with the judge noting one of the victims could have died from his injuries. Sheena’s criminal record includes more than 25 convictions as an adult, including robbery, breach of trust, obstruction, and various assault and drug offences.
