Trans-Canada Highway east of Kamloops to be shut down during blasting

KAMLOOPS – Blasting will shut down Highway 1 east of Kamloops as crews prepare to move forward on the expansion of the highway.

The closure will take place from 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow, Sept. 20. The highway will be closed in both directions about 13 kilometres west of Chase. An alternate route is available using Highway 97 via Falkland.

The section of highway between Hoffman's Bluff and Pritchard has a higher-than average crash rate and the current construction is meant to increase capacity and movement on the route as well as improve safety.

This construction is part of a provincial plan to expand the Trans-Canada Highway to four lanes from Kamloops to the Alberta border.

The project is currently in phase two of a multi-phase plan.

  1. It was the nuts behind the wheel, I’ve driving that highway for over ten years and never seen an accident, but I’ve watched people speeding, passing on a solid line, big trucks passing trucks when there really isn’t any reason to do so they are already traveling to fast.Just saying,!!
