Wildfire evacuation alert lifted near Oliver

OLIVER – The evacuation alert sparked by the Testalinden Creek fire burning near Oliver has been lifted by the local regional district.

The alert, which covered 180 homes and properties, was rescinded at 3:30 p.m., Sept. 11.

Although the alert has been lifted, the fight against the over 5,000-hectare wildfire continues.

B.C. Wildfire crews conducted large, controlled burns this week with plumes of smoke visible for kilometres, according to a media release.

Crews worked to mop up the edges of the controlled burns.

There are 153 firefighters and 64 support staff working the blaze.

The Testalinden Creek wildfire has been burning since Aug. 14 and is now 90 per cent contained.
