KAMLOOPS – The city is about to lose two more doctors after a husband and wife team announced they’ll be leaving their North Shore practice.
Last week the Aspen Medical Centre notified its patients that family doctor Arshad Mahmood and his wife Dr. Ambreen Bushra would be relocating, leaving solely Dr. Howie at the practice.
A representative from the Thompson Region Division of Family Practice was unavailable to confirm the current number of family physicians in Kamloops and if more are expected to fill the void.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring villages of Ashcroft and Logan Lake are still considered ‘communities in crisis’ with Logan Lake having no family physicians available. Ashcroft recently lost one doctor, leaving strict limitations on emergency room hours. Patients at both locations have been encouraged to rely upon either a nurse hotline or medical services available in Kamloops or Merritt.
