FRESNO, Calif. – A California man has been sentenced to 112 years in prison for the attempted murder of two unarmed officers in the lobby of a county jail.
The Fresno Bee reports Thong Van was sentenced Friday in the 2016 shootings of the officers at Fresno County Jail.
Authorities say Vang shot officers Juanita Davila and Toamalama Scanlan when they approached him after he cut to the front of the visitors’ line.
Scanlan’s wife, Tespatasi, testified that her husband can no longer walk, talk or feed himself. Davila was shot in the neck and said she still needs another surgery to mend her broken jaw.
Vang testified he was high on methamphetamine, paranoid and looking for help when he entered the jail lobby. He had prior rape convictions.
