PORTLAND, Maine – A replica of a Royal Navy schooner that was built in Maine is in Portland this weekend for free tours.
Tall Ships Maine says it invited the Spirit of Bermuda to come to Maine’s largest city for tours on Saturday and Sunday. The schooner is a 112-foot replica of a Royal Navy sloop-of-war, and it was first launched at Rockport Marine in 2006.
The ship’s crew includes eight teenagers from Maine and eight teenagers from Bermuda. It’s registered in Hamilton, Bermuda, where it serves as a sail training vessel.
Tall Ships Maine says Maine students flew to Bermuda to become members of the crew. Tall Ships is a youth sail training organization.
Tours will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.
