Police dog makes quick work of locating stolen briefcase full of cash in downtown Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A briefcase full of cash was stolen from a vehicle early this morning, but was quickly located hidden in some bushes down the street by a police dog.

An officer in the parking lot behind the downtown detachment was approached by a person around 6 a.m. saying their truck had been broken into. A jacket and briefcase containing a large sum of cash meant to pay business suppliers were stolen.

The vehicle had been parked behind the 500-block of St. Paul Street and the owner was working in a nearby building when his vehicle alarm went off.

The responding officer brought police dog Zak in to help track down the suspect and stolen items, and in a short time, his nose led him to the briefcase, which was stashed in some shrubs in front of 546 St. Paul St.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter and are asking anyone with information to please call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
