Kelowna Rockets shutout Giants to end pre-season

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 3-0 on Saturday night at Prospera Place, closing out the WHL exhibition season with a win.

After a scoreless first period, Tanner Wishnowski opened the scoring as the Rockets forward scored on a penalty shot after being hauled down on a partial breakaway.

Wishnowski would later add his second of the game and defenceman Gordie Ballhorn also scored for the Rockets. Kole Lind chipped in with two assists.

Veteran Rockets goalie Jackson Whistle made his preseason Rockets debut and played the first half of the game, stopping all 12 shots he faced. Michael Herringer played the second half of the game as the two combined on a shutout.

The Rockets outshot Vancouver 34-25 in the game.

Kelowna finished its five-game WHL exhibition schedule at 3-2-0-0.

The Rockets will now get set to open the 2015-16 WHL season as defending league champions next weekend beginning with its home opener on Friday night at Prospera Place against Kamloops.

Kelowna will hoist the WHL and BC Division banners prior to the home opener.
