Kosovo citizen charged with joining terror group in Syria
PRISTINA, Kosovo – Prosecutors in Kosovo say they have charged a citizen from the Balkan country with being part of a terror group for allegedly joining the Nusra Front in Syria.
Monday’s statement said that the suspect, identified only as N.A., went to Turkey in 2014 and entered Syria from the town of Gaziantep to join al-Qaida-linked Nusra, which recently changed its name to the Fatah al-Sham Front. After a week, he returned to Kosovo. In his second attempt to go to Syria, Turkish authorities turned him back “because of his links to the war zone.”
The suspect is charged with participation in a terror group and faces 10 years in prison if convicted.
Kosovo authorities say about 70 of the country’s citizens are active in extremist groups in Syria and Iraq.
