You could soon buy wine with your cheese at Kelowna grocery stores
KELOWNA – It’s taken a while but consumers could soon be able to pick up a bottle of wine while buying milk and eggs.
Three grocery stores in Kelowna have been granted B.C. VQA liquor sales licenses and have applied for the right to stock wine on their store shelves, including both Save On Foods locations and Urban Fare’s single store.
A change in government liquor policy came into effect April 1 allowing grocery stores to hold a retail liquor store license.
Two other stores — the IGA locations in Rutland and Glenmore — are eligible to apply for the retail license but have not yet done so.
There’s no word yet, on exactly when wine sales may begin in the three stores.
Kelowna regulates retail liquor sales through zoning. A business hoping to sell liquor in a commercial zone requires a retail liquor store zoning.
