Woman reunited with Diego the dog more than a week after Vernon car accident
VERNON – He’s hungry, dehydrated, and a bit scratched up, but Diego is home.
His owner, Tonya Olson, spent the last nine days desperately searching for him, holding out hope that he was alive. On Wednesday, Sept. 30, her wish came true. An employee at the seedling plant on Bailey Road, not far from where the car crash occurred, noticed him on the grounds and notified Olson, who wasted no time coming to get him.
“I couldn’t stop crying when I saw him,” Olson says. “He’s happy, I’m happy. It’s amazing news.”
He’s a bit thinner and has a scratch on his head, but other than that, is in good health and enjoying a much needed nap on the couch, Olson says.
“I have no idea what he survived on, it was quite a while to be out by himself,” Olson says.
She’s been overwhelmed by public support across the Okanagan and is grateful for everyone who aided in the search.
“I’ve had countless people call me and even take time out of their day to go search whether from Armstrong, Kelowna to vernon, so many strangers have opened up their hearts to me. It’s bene unreal, I’m so blessed and happy and speechless,” Olson says.
