TRU and CUPE Local 4879 reach agreement

KAMLOOPS – TRU and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4879 have reached an agreement consistent with the provincial government’s Economic Stability Mandate. The agreement reached is subject to ratification by the parties.

Covering the five-year period from April 1, 2014 through March 31, 2019, the agreement provides for a 5.4 per cent general wage increase and some benefit improvement over the term which is in keeping with the fixed fiscal envelope of the mandate.

Among the more than 400 university staff included in the agreement are system analysts, accountants, cashiers, bookstore clerks and buyers, registration/admissions clerks, maintenance and utility staff, library technicians, ancillary staff and Open Learning support staff to name a few.

“Increasing student success is a priority at TRU and we share that priority with our partners CUPE Local 4879. This agreement continues that positive relationship. With the support of CUPE members we look forward to continuing to provide strong levels of service to our students in pursuit of their educational goals,” said Alan Shaver, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor.

This is the second group of employees to reach a settlement with TRU this year. In January 2015 an agreement with the TRU Opening Learning Faculty Association was ratified.
