Caution advised after Armstrong mail boxes broken into

ARMSTRONG – Police are asking the public to watch for unusual activity after a set of mail boxes were broken into in the Armstrong area.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says numerous mail boxes at the corner of Lansdowne Road and McLeery Road in Armstrong were tampered with Monday morning. The damage was reported around 8 a.m. by a Canada Post employee.

“It is unknown if any mail was stolen,” Molendyk says.

The incident follows a rash of mail thefts in Lumby and Lavington, as well as in the South Okanagan.

Stolen cash, cheques and identities are among the concerns involved in mail theft.

“If an individual manages to get a driver’s license, medical info, date of birth, identity theft is one of the concerns,” Molendyk says.

If you’re expecting a GST cheque, birthday money, or a package in the mail and it doesn’t show up, contact Canada Post immediately, Molendyk says.

“Be diligent around any suspicious activity and report anything out of the ordinary to police,” Molendyk says.
