Woman vies for $100,000 prize to help minor league hockey

There's big money at stake for a Kelowna minor hockey league volunteer now that's she's made the finals to win one of five contest prizes to benefit young players.

Marilyn Hedman is one of 100 people left in the Kraft Hockey Goes On competition, but the only way she can take home a $100,000 prize for the league is if people vote for her March 23.

Hedman has been associated with the league for 22 years becoming the registrar in 1990, which requires a vast knowledge of Hockey Canada and B.C. Hockey rules and regulations.

The Hockey Goes On website says she was nominated by her peers for her tireless effort and her standard of excellence and for fulfilling her duties as registrar with amazing competence.

Hedman keeps track of more than 1,400 players and about 400 volunteers she registers each year.

She is grandmother to a young goalie who plays for the Atoms.
