Kelowna dinner and dance to raise money for orphans in India

KELOWNA – A fundraising dinner for a local orphan’s foundation is being held in Kelowna ahead of the start of the Indian Festival of Lights.

Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, starts on Nov. 11 this year, but the Kelowna-based East Meets West Orphans Foundation dinner and dance will take place a month earlier, on Oct. 17. Funds will be used to help pay for medical treatment for abandoned children in Kolkata, India.

The event will feature classical Indian dancing, traditional Indian food and an evening of dancing to bhangra music.

East meets West was established in 2008 and according to a media release has saved the lives of close to 180 children. Many of those children have been adopted by families in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Tickets for the dinner and dance at Rutland Centennial Hall are still available and can be purchased by calling 250-575-1453.
