PUEBLO, Colo. – The Latest on the drowning of two children and their baby sitter (all times local):
11:25 a.m.
Neighbours of two Colorado girls who drowned with their baby sitter in the swimming pool of a mobile home park say the water is usually crowded with kids in the summer.
Three-year-old Azucena (azu-SEENA) Gandarilla (gand-ah-REE-yah); her sister, 6-year-old Amaya (ah-MAH-yah) Gandarilla (gand-ah-REE-yah); and their 17-year-old baby sitter, Joo Lee, died Monday. Foul play isn’t suspected.
Authorities say the sisters lived in Pueblo Grande Village mobile home park. They aren’t sure where the teen lived.
Neighbour Ruth Wright says she didn’t know the girls by name but that children packed the pool during the summertime. Wright says neighbours are shocked by the drownings.
Police are canvassing the park Tuesday for witnesses. A 911 call around 2:10 p.m. Monday reported the drownings, and the girls couldn’t be revived.
