LAKE COUNTRY – In early October a man entered the Winfield Coin Laundry and used a technique to get the coin dispensing machine to give him coins without paying for them.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m., Oct. 5, when the unknown man entered the Highway 97 location and began ‘stringing’ the machine. RCMP describe the technique as a way to trick the machine into dispensing coins even when no bills are deposited in return.
After several minutes of stringing the machine other patrons confronted the man and he left in a silver Dodge SUV.
Video surveillance was obtained and RCMP continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Kris Clark of Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288. You can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
