Officials: Chemical lime spill creates dust cloud in Ohio

WEST CHESTER, Ohio – Officials in a Cincinnati-area township say a chemical lime spill has created a dust cloud and they are advising residents to stay indoors.

West Chester Township spokeswoman Barbara Wilson says 60,000 pounds of lime spilled shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday within the operational area of Superior Environmental Solutions.

Wilson says some nearby businesses have been evacuated as a precaution.

Lime can cause skin and eye irritation and respiratory problems. The fire department is encouraging those in the area to stay inside with their windows and doors closed and their air conditioning off.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports firefighters are using water on the lime to turn it into steam.

Superior Environmental Solutions is an industrial cleaning company.
