
Fentanyl confirmed in some South Okanagan overdoses
PENTICTON – Test results have confirmed the drug fentanyl was present in some of the overdose cases reported in the South Okanagan two weeks ago.
Osoyoos and Oliver detachments issued a press release Oct. 8 warning drug users following a rash of overdoses in the South Okanagan. Nine people were affected, including two Olalla residents who died as a result of overdose.
This morning, Oct. 21, Interior Health confirmed test results showed a presence of fentanyl in some of the caes.
The health agency continues to advise the public that not taking drugs is the best way to avoid overdose and other health impacts.
“We advise those who are using drugs to take steps to reduce the risk,” Interior Health says in a press release, advising those at risk to contact this Interior Health website.
