Community Foundation initiative aims to strengthen neighbourly relations
PENTICTON – The City of Penticton is giving the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan-Similkameen $5,000 toward a fund to help residents pay for neighbourhood events like block parties.
The Foundation's executive director Aaron McRann approached city council with a request to match funds with the organization in order to leverage equal funding from the Vancouver Foundation.
McRann says her group plans to partner with the Vancouver Foundation to provide small grants of $500 or less to Penticton residents for neighbourhood building events such as block parties, neighbourhood cleanups, trail developments or neighbourhood sports programs.
The Vancouver Foundation is expected to match the $10,000 from the local group and the city, providing them with a total of $20,000.
The city use money set aside for mid-year grant requests to provide the funds.
