PENTICTON – Crisp, sunny days and cool, frosty nights may be a sign of the impending winter season, but there is still lots going on this weekend in Penticton.

The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre plays host to the sixth annual Penticton Oktoberfest, which takes place on Saturday, October 24 starting at 6 p.m.

The convention centre is transformed into Munich’s famous Hofbrauhaus during the Penticton version of the German celebration, which is one of the larger Oktoberfest events in the Okanagan Valley.

Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Valley First Box Office, located at the South Okanagan Events Centre, and at the Wine Country Visitors Centre. Penticton Oktoberfest is an age restricted event. For more information see the Oktoberfest website.

Rounds five and six of the Canadian National Arenacross Tour take place Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 at the South Okanagan Events Centre, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both evenings.

Pro Arenacross riders compete for a cash payout of more than $60,000 and more than 20 amateur classes racers compete for $25,000 worth of trophies, prizes and series awards.

The Arenacross tour is a new motocross project that launched in September for the first time in Canada. It consists of an eight round professional Arenacross series, including an east and west amateur national Arenacross Championship.

Tickets can be purchased at the Valley First Box Office at the events centre and at the Wine Country Visitor Centre, or via phone at 1-877-SOEC-TIX.

Halloween Destruction provides Sunday afternoon, Oct. 25, entertainment at the Penticton Speedway during its final event of the season. The event includes stock car races and a crowd pleasing hit-to-pass event that includes race cars dragging boats and towing trailers behind them as they jockey for supremacy on the track.

Action gets underway at 2 p.m. at the Penticton Speedway located at 2070 Carmi Avenue.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
