Penticton search and rescue targeted by thieves

PENTICTON –The volunteers with Penticton Search and Rescue showed up at the group’s hall Saturday morning, Oct. 24, for a training exercise to find they were the victim’s of a break-in and theft.

“We sure got a shock,” president Dale Jorgensen says in a media release.

Thieves broke into two of the organization’s trailers. A 1000-watt Honda generator (serial number: EZGA 1163235) and gas cans used for their UTVs were gone.

It's certainly disheartening considering we are a volunteer and self funded organization,” Jorgensen says. “Everyone here gives so much to help others."

The group will have to find the money to replace the generator and the gas cans, plus the cost of upgrading their security measures.

The volunteers are hoping someone has information that could help the Penticton RCMP with its investigation so they get their property back.

Jorgensen is urging people to call the detachment at 250-492-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
