Kalamalka Lake lookout gets much-needed facelift

VERNON – The iconic lookout just off Highway 97 on Vernon’s south end with the spectacular view of the city, Coldstream and Kalamalka Lake is now looking pretty good thanks to an upgrade funded by provincial tax dollars.

What was once a big parking lot with some garbage cans is now a full-fledged rest area complete with toilets, picnic tables, garbage and recycling bins, and landscaping. It’s also wheelchair accessible.

The facelift cost $58,000 and is part of a provincial government program to spend a total of $9 million to upgrade rest areas over the next three years, according to a media release.

"This project was a very worthwhile investment,” Coldstream mayor Jim Garlick says in the release. “The lookout has great historic and economic value."
