Police: Man saves woman trapped inside SUV in river

NUTLEY, N.J. – Officials say a woman would’ve drowned inside her SUV following a crash if not for a New Jersey man, who sprinted into a river, pried open a door and carried her to safety.

Police say the 50-year-old woman’s SUV jumped a curb in Nutley Tuesday morning and plunged into the Passaic (puh-SAY’-ihk) River.

Jason Moss says he put on a pair of gym shorts and ran into the water. He says the woman was floating unconscious and that the vehicle was filling with water.

Moss says he pried open a door of the partially submerged vehicle and swam to shore with the woman.

Police say she was taken to a hospital. Her name hasn’t been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
