Break-ins highlight police calls in Penticton

PENTICTON – A number of break-ins and thefts kept officers with Penticton RCMP busy last week.

Penticton RCMP responded to a reported break in to a tire bin at Murray Buick GMC, 1010 Westminster Ave., on Thursday, Oct. 22. Investigation could not determine if any tires were taken though, according to police media spokesman Rick Dellebuur.

Also on Oct. 22, police responded to a mischief complaint at Penticton Secondary School, where they found two vehicles in the school parking lot were vandalized. The rear windows on both a Chevrolet Camaro and a Hyundai Elantra had been smashed. There were no witnesses to the incident.

Mailbox break-ins and theft of mail occurred to mailboxes along Allendale Lake Road and Oliver Ranch Road in the Okanagan Falls area on Friday, Oct. 23.

On Saturday, Oct. 24 police answered a call to Red Wing Resort gated community where they found an 85-year-old man drove his car through the garage and into the house after mistaking the gas for the brake pedal.

On Oct. 25, a cabin owner at 1384 Apex Mountain Rd. reported a break-in after discovering the back door to his cabin had been forced open, sometime between Oct. 20 and 25. Thieves cut the power line to the electrical meter before sacking the cabin, making off with numerous household items. The theft continues under investigation.

Also overnight on Sunday, Oct. 25, a break-in was reported at True Outdoors on Riverside Drive, where a storage container holding canoes was entered. Nothing was taken in the incident.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
