2 police, 2 suspected gunmen killed in western Mexico

MEXICO CITY – Mexican authorities say two police officers and two suspected gunmen were killed in a series of confrontations in the western state of Jalisco.

Jalisco Attorney General Gerardo Octavio Solís told reporters Friday that the assailants were shooting and throwing grenades at police. Both were killed along with one officer at a residential housing development in the municipality of Tlajomulco, just south of the capital of Guadalajara.

Another officer was killed in a separate shooting elsewhere in Tlajomulco.

Jalisco Gov. Enrique Alfaro said in a video statement: “We’re very carefully looking at what our police will do to capture those who are attacking our city and our state.”

Local officials say three suspects have been apprehended.
